Mark's comments are in alignment with recent CIO Magazine research. Our most recent Economic Outlook study reports that virtualization - at the server and desktop level - plus cloud/SaaS computing models have risen to the top of the "do to" lists for CIOs struggling to make ends meet during the Great Recession.
The SMB market might be growing faster than large enterprises but that masks the key data point: when and how robustly will large enterprises resume spending in IT. SMB firms are often beholdent on the economic cycles of big companies. Topline revenue rather than percentage growth comparisons is the best measure of the vitality of the smb segment.
Good stuff in the study. Syncs well with a recent IDC report claiming in 2009 800 exabytes of data will be created globally....that's a lot of data. Also, the info showing how IT pros are implementing key IT projects is in line with a just released CIO Magazine Economic Outlook study which reports over half - 52% - of firms ,despite being in the teeth of the deepest recession since 1930s, claim the focus of their IT investment in the coming 12 months is "growth and innovation"
